Domestic polysilazane "material chips" reach pilot production stage

Renowned as "the chips of the materials field", polysilazane, a type of material, recently completed a new round of performance tests at a certain new materials research institute in China. This marks that this high-end basic material that has long relied on imports is one step closer to industrialization, breaking the overseas monopoly and entering the countdown period.

1. What is polysilazane?

It is a viscous liquid precursor at room temperature. When applied to parts and then undergoes curing and high-temperature decomposition, it will "grow" a layer of dense silicon-based ceramics on the spot. It is resistant to high temperatures, radiation, insulation, and hydrophobicity, and is an indispensable material in semiconductor, aerospace, and advanced energy storage fields.

2. Why is it a "critical material"?
The synthesis reaction releases heat extremely quickly and is extremely sensitive to water and oxygen. Even a small amount of impurities will cause the entire batch to be scrapped. The production threshold is high. High-end electronic-grade products are priced by grams and rely on imports. The bargaining power of downstream customers is compressed, and the supply chain is subject to control.

3. How can domestic overcome the situation?
The team started from the basic monomer and integrated the entire reaction process into a fully enclosed, water-free, and oxygen-free device for continuous operation. Then, they added nano-scale ion exchange purification to reduce metal impurities to the level of electronic-grade purity. Currently, a complete pilot production line covering liquid and solid polysilazane as well as thermal barrier coatings, silicon nitride fibers, etc. has been built.

4. Quick answers to common questions from customers

**Q1: How is the electronic-grade purity guaranteed? **
A: The reaction is carried out in a sealed environment without water or oxygen, followed by ion exchange purification. The metal impurities are controlled within the standards of electronic grade.
**Q2: Can it replace imported materials? **
A: The pilot production performance has been verified. However, it still needs to be certified by the customer in small quantities. The certification period is usually measured in years.
**Q3: Can samples be provided now? **
A: Once the pilot line is stable, samples can be provided. This is also the prerequisite for initiating customer certification.
